Frequently Asked Questions
- Are there tryouts for recreational players?
No, there are no tryouts. Everyone who signs-up is placed on a team. Coaches are parent volunteers
- How old does my child have to be to play?
Currently we offer U6 – U15 in our recreational program. These age groups are for children born between 2012-2019.
- When is the registration period?
Registration for our spring season usually opens online in January and our fall season in July. All registration is done online.
- What is the registration fee?
Registration fees are $45/player, unless you volunteer to head coach, then your registration fee is waived! Learn more under the Coach tab. T-shirt style jerseys are included and you can purchase soccer socks at the time you register for $5.
- What equipment is needed?
Shin guards are required at games and practices and MUST be worn UNDER socks. Cleats are highly recommended. We recommend having a ball at home to practice with, players are welcome to bring their own ball to practice as well. U6 and U8 use a size three ball, U10 and up use a size four.
- Are scholarships available?
YES- Scholarships are available. Certain requirements must be met to qualify. Click the button below to send an email with SCHOLARSHIP in the subject line with your child’s name, date of birth and your contact information.
- Can I request a friend to be on our team?
During online registration there is a teammate and a coach request box you are welcome to use. While we do our best to make those requests happen, it is NOT guaranteed.
- When are practices and games?
Games are on Saturday mornings into early afternoons. Practice days and times are decided by your child’s coach. During online registration, there is a special request box, if there is a certain day of the week your child cannot attend, it’s important that you mention that information then. We are unable to move players once teams are divided, so knowing ahead of time that certain days of the weeks will not work for you is the only way we can attempt to avoid scheduling conflicts.
- How do age groups work?
Age groups are set by US Soccer and are non-negotiable. Players cannot play “up” or “down” in our recreational program. The “U” in age groups stands for under, so a child cannot turn eight that calendar year and play U8. For more information see the chart here: https://usclubsoccer.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Birth-year-registration-and-season-matrix-2017-08-01__1_.pdf
- Do you keep score?
No, we do not keep any official score. We place a priority on fun and skill development and deemphasize results. We also do not hand out any sort of participation medals or team trophies in this program. If you’re interested in a more competitive environment, take a look at our Club/Competitive program.
- When will I hear from my child’s coach?
We recommend downloading the GroupMe app when the season approaches. You should hear from your coach the week after the coaches meeting, most coaches use this app to communicate.
